A Project Zomboid server keeps Knox County ticking while you are logged off, which is the whole point of playing it multiplayer. Ours run on dedicated machines, with NVMe storage, which matters because Zomboid writes map chunks constantly as players move.

Sandbox settings, server settings and mod lists are all editable from the dashboard, with the fields laid out rather than left as a wall of INI. Backups run automatically, and restoring one is the realistic answer to a save that has corrupted or a mod update that went badly.

Sizing

How much RAM does a Project Zomboid server need?

PlayersBest forServer
Up to 6Vanilla, or a handful of quality-of-life mods, on a fresh map.Fanny Pack€11.00/mo
6 to 16A modded server with map mods, and a world that has been played in for a while.Rucksack€25.00/mo
16 and upHeavy mod lists, large map packs, and long-running worlds with a lot of explored territory.—

Zomboid's memory use grows with explored map area as much as with player count. A server that has been running for months on the same save wants more headroom than its player count suggests.

Included

What every Project Zomboid server comes with

Sandbox settings, laid out

Zombie population, loot rarity, XP rates and the rest are editable as labelled, validated fields, and written back in the format the server reads.

Workshop mods

Add Workshop mods and map mods from the dashboard. Mod and map IDs are handled together, which is where most hand-edited Zomboid configs go wrong.

Backups that save the run

Automatic backups on a schedule, and manual ones before you touch a mod list. A Zomboid save is worth protecting and a restore takes moments.

Full console and file access

Live web console with RCON for admin commands, in-browser file editing, and SFTP when you would rather work locally.

Restarts on a schedule

Pick a time of day or an interval and the server restarts itself, telling players in chat first on the games where we can reach a console. Anything written to the server since its last boot, mod updates included, is picked up on the way back up.

Getting started

Setting up your Project Zomboid server

  1. 1

    Pick a Project Zomboid server

Choose a tier from the list above. Sizing is about memory and player count, and you can move to another tier later without losing your world.

  2. 2

    Configure it

Set the Project Zomboid version, pick an address for your server, and choose a billing cycle. Everything here can be changed afterwards.

  3. 3

    Play

The server is built and running within a couple of minutes of checkout. Your address, console, files and backups are waiting in the dashboard.
