A 7 Days to Die server spends its night fighting for CPU and its day writing chunks to disk, and both are why it runs here on dedicated machines, with NVMe storage rather than on shared cloud hardware.

serverconfig.xml is around eighty properties that all look alike and all matter. In the dashboard they are grouped, labelled, bounded and explained, and saving writes them back into your own file with its comments intact. Generate a random world or run one of the shipped maps, and keep backups for the blood moon that goes badly.

Sizing

How much RAM does a 7 Days To Die server need?

PlayersBest forServer
Up to 4Navezgane or a 6144 generated map at default zombie counts.Wooden Club€20.00/mo
4 to 8The supported eight-player server on an 8192 map, with room for a raised zombie count.Iron Club€29.00/mo
8 and upA 10240 map, a higher view distance, and a long-running world with a lot of built-up territory.Steel Club€35.00/mo
8 and up, moddedOverhaul mods such as Darkness Falls or Undead Legacy, which change the map and the entity budget together.Steel Sledgehammer€43.00/mo

Map size and MaxSpawnedZombies drive memory here far more than player count does. Eight players is the officially supported ceiling, and saves start to misbehave past twenty however much memory you give the server.

Included

What every 7 Days To Die server comes with

serverconfig.xml, explained

Every property laid out with its own description and sane bounds, from land claim decay to the zombie cap. Your file's comments are preserved on save.

Generated or shipped maps

Pick Navezgane or one of the pregenerated worlds, or set a seed and a size and let the server build one. Changing it later is one field and a restart.

Built for blood moons

Dedicated NVMe hardware, and enough shutdown grace that a save started during a horde night finishes before the server stops.

Backups before you experiment

Automatic backups on a schedule and manual ones on demand. Take one before raising the zombie cap or switching to an overhaul mod.

Restarts on a schedule

Pick a time of day or an interval and the server restarts itself, telling players in chat first on the games where we can reach a console. Anything written to the server since its last boot, mod updates included, is picked up on the way back up.
